Why don’t you have a landing page?
Stop making excuses. Start collecting emails.
Why all the fuss about landing pages? Why are they so important? Why should I take the time and put in the effort to create one?
It’s simple: If you want to turn cold leads into into warm leads and keep them warm, an email list is vital. If you want to grow an email list, a landing page is pretty necessary.
Even if you understand that you need a list, one of these excuses might be keeping you from starting one…
Excuse #1: I don’t have anything to sell yet!
Great! If you don’t have anything to sell yet but you intend to in the future now is the perfect time to be building your list. That way when you finally do launch you will already have an audience ready to buy.
There are plenty of people who have attempted to launch a product without a solid list who have not sold a single thing. I’m one of those people. Don’t be like me. Build a list and start building now.
Excuse #2: I don’t have a website yet!
No worries. You don’t need to create a whole site in order to start collecting leads, especially if you choose to go with ConvertKit. They have landing page tools that make it easy to build a landing page fast. You can do it in 5 minutes. I prove it in this video: Start an email list in 5 minutes — without a website
I have a website (two actually) and I still choose to use ConvertKit’s tools — they’re that good.
Excuse #3: No one will give me their email addresses!
Simple fix: Stop asking for their email addresses and start offering to send them something.
There are plenty of ideas for “Lead Magnets” out there. You can offer anything from a free PDF to a free 5-day mini-course. Get creative and solve a problem. Think about your ideal customer. What is something he struggles with? What resource can you put together in a day that could help him overcome that struggle? Create that resource and offer to send it to him in exchange for his email address.
Okay, no more excuses… how do I build this thing?
- Start with the Lead Magnet (see Excuse #3).
- Create a Landing Page that automatically sends out said Lead Magnet when a person provides their email address (ConvertKit makes this easy).
- Write some solid copy that convinces said person that your Lead Magnet will actually solve their problem (stay tuned for a follow-up article detailing this step).
