How to create the right lead magnet for your audience

{and how to do it fast}

I’m not going to go into detail about what a lead magnet is and why you need one. Suffice it to say that it is a freebie that incentivizes people to join your email list. What I am going to detail is how to quickly create one that you know will resonate with your audience.

So simple even my 6-month-old can do it… with some help.

Start with your most popular piece of content.

If you begin with something that has already proven popular with your audience then you can be confident that your topic is relevant.

The simplest way to turn this into a lead magnet is to package it up as is without making changes. Exporting the webpage as a PDF is sufficient.

You can take it a step further and edit your content into a different format. Break it up into pages and call it an eBook. Condense it into a list of bullet points and call it a guide. A third way to use a popular piece of content to generate a lead magnet is to write a follow-up piece. What does a reader crave after reading your original article? Give that to him in the form of a guide or create a printable tool that will help him implement the advice you have given him.

I recently wrote an article on journaling methods. When it proved popular I decided to create a printable template that will make it easy for my readers to try one of the methods I wrote about. Super simple; super fast to create.

Set a timer for 20 minutes.

A task will naturally expand to fill the time allowed for it. Give yourself a week to develop an idea and you will take a week to develop it. Give yourself a day and you will have something usable by bedtime.

You already have the basic structure and content for your lead magnet. Now set a timer for 20 minutes and turn it into something you can deliver to people who sign up for your list.

Ship it!

Your lead magnet isn’t doing anyone any good sitting on your computer waiting for you to perfect it. The whole point of the 20-minute timer is to keep you from getting hung up on the details. Make it available ASAP. You already know the original content was helpful to people, otherwise it wouldn’t be popular. This new lead magnet will help people too — but only if you put it out into the world.
